Leading Experts in Excavation & Demolition
Singh Excavation BC Ltd. has vast experience and knowledge in installing new storm and sanitary connections. We are an approved contractor to install underground utilities with adequate liability insurance coverage and clearance from WorkSafe BC. Singh Excavating BC Ltd. is skilled in numerous storm and sanitary connections and related services such as traffic management plans, traffic control services, road cut, pavement of asphalt, construction of curbs and sidewalks, installation of catch-basin, ditch infills, new manholes and culverts.
Upgrading a new connection is a very delicate task. We thoughtfully plan out this entire process before beginning any work on the City streets. Our focus with any type of excavation is to be aware of our surroundings and the underground infrastructure before digging. We follow the highest industry safety standards. As part of our due diligence, we contact BC 1 Call to find out about any pipes, cables or conduits belonging to their members such as gas, hydro, electricity and telephone service providers.
In addition, for the installation of a new storm and/or sanitary connection, an effective traffic management strategy is essential for the safety of our crew and road users such as vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. For the short duration of work and on not-so-busy roadways, we comply with pre-approved traffic pattern figures, employ certified flaggers, and carry traffic signs and cones for safely directing the traffic flow.
For longer duration of work and on high-traffic, arterial roadways, we obtain comprehensive traffic management plans. We work with municipality traffic management planners to ensure that we comply with the traffic obstruction permits issued by the City.
Digging a trench with an excavator is the most common way to install new storm and sanitary connections. In areas where there are a lot of underground utilities crossing and overlapping, and mechanical excavation is not feasible, we utilize Hydrovac services for trenching. We carefully evaluate the width and depth of the trench required based on the size of the storm and/or sanitary pipes to be installed. Depending on the depth of the Municipality’s main utility lines, we take adequate measures based on the WorkSafe BC Occupational Health & Safety Regulations (OHS), to establish a safe working environment for our crew. This includes, but is not limited to shoring, sloping, and benching safety protocols.
We acknowledge that when working on the City roadways, there is a lot at stake; however, with proper planning and coordination, we can effectively get the job done in a safe and efficient manner.
